Are you built to last?
When preparing my message for this weekend, I originally knew what I was going to speak on – Restringing the Family Ties; however, God impressed something different on my heart just last week while watching a movie – maybe some of you have heard of it, or even seen it, but it has to do with discrimination, endurance, being an over comer against all odds, having someone believe in you and stand with you and for you against all odds, and believing in yourself – Believing you are ‘Built to Last’!
If this message has a title it is ‘Are you Built to Last?’
I cried through the entire movie, my heart just went out to this couple and all they endured during this critical time in history. The couple was presented as happy, loving, confident, determined, and persistent to be who God created them to be – They were Built to Last!
Today – 66 years later – are we not still fighting the same battles of discrimination?
Are we not still fighting to be an over comer against all odds, are we not still fighting to have someone to believe in us? To take a chance on us? Even today, the best way to find a job is through networking – someone knows you and they provide a personal reference – without this networking we cannot get our foot in the door. Lastly, the battle of believing in you, being confident in this world we are living in and realizing we are created for a greater purpose.
The beautiful thing is God does not discriminate – he is our creator and knows us – He knitted us in our mother’s wombs. Psalm 139:13 – English Standard Version
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
HE wants what is best for us.
KJV Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Sure we go through hard times here on this earth, but it is to build our character and mold us into the person God created us to be.
KJV Job 23:10
But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
How do you respond when you are faced with adversity? When people mock you, make fun of you, and treat you as if you are unworthy?
Do you realize that when you are treated this way that the Lord is also being mistreated? HE is with you– His spirit is in you. Or do you take it personally and let the flesh respond or react for you?
In the Gideon series Priscilla Shire states– “We are spiritual beings having a human experience”. If we could only grasp the fact we are spiritual beings and our purpose in this carnal world is to increase the kingdom, help the helpless, and love the unloved – we would all be ‘Jesus in Disguise’!
My son loved to play football when he was in high school – I would go watch the practice and I was amazed he could take all the coaches dished out. In 90 degree or hotter weather they had to wear their pads and cleats, run laps, do up downs, practice plays and they were a stinky, sweaty, mess by the time the practice was over. I am thinking he is going to pass out and when they finished all the rigorous training they were pumped up. Adrenaline flowing – All the training they endured built them up to make it through the game as WINNERS.
Are we not going through the same life training? So, we can endure to the end and attain life everlasting?
Endurance – being Built to Last
Definition: Endure: to hold out against; suffer without yielding, suffer patiently, to continue to last.
How many times has God prompted us to do something for HIM?
Are we like Gideon and have to put fleeces before the Lord before we believe it is HIM speaking to us?
Then when we do decide it is God, do we put our BEST effort forth or just halfheartedly do what is asked of us, because it might be too hard or we might have to ENDURE too much?
What if Noah would have decided the ark was just too hard to build and he could not do it? Or imagine going to work every day building the ark – do you think you could see the daily progress? I imagine something that big, would feel so overwhelming, but Noah endured – he endured the daily criticism – he did not let it deter his mission – God called him to do.
We must endure – continue and be consistent with what God has called us to do. We may not see the progress or success immediately, but our faith is being built. We are growing stronger in our experiences and our spirit within us is growing and building us to last.
Let us be BUILT TO LAST in these last days we are living – to Stand for the Right! Help the Helpless and Love the Hopeless! God built us; HE built us to Last! Let us receive this mission and go forward in HIS power and spirit to fulfill our purpose!
KJV Revelation 4:11
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
We are BUILT TO LAST!
